A coving photograph can help you choose a style, but a sample lets you judge it in your own room. Before ordering full lengths, check three things: the profile shape, the space it occupies and the corners you need.
1. Choose the type of coving
For a project with concealed lighting, start with the LED coving collection. Check how the individual profile is intended to hold or conceal the lighting. LED strips, drivers and controls are purchased separately.
For a decorative finish without lighting, browse Non-LED coving. For period-inspired detail, explore Victorian coving.
WOLDECOR manufactures the XPS profiles in the LED and Non-LED collections. Use the information for the actual model you choose when selecting installation materials.
2. Compare samples in the room
Open the model you like and select its sample option. A 20cm sample lets you check the profile shape and surface before committing to full lengths. Keep the model code with each sample so you can identify it later.
- Hold the sample in the intended wall-and-ceiling position.
- Look at it from the doorway and from the places where you usually sit.
- Compare it with the room's doors, windows and existing mouldings.
- Check nearby obstructions, including curtain fittings and built-in furniture.
A sample shows the shape and scale of a short section. For LED coving, the final lighting effect also depends on your chosen strip, its position and the room surfaces.
3. Check both profile dimensions
The wall drop is how far the installed profile extends down the wall. The ceiling projection is how far it extends across the ceiling. Check the product drawing or dimension labels to see which measurement is which.
Compare both measurements with your available space. Two profiles can have similar overall sizes but very different shapes. Ceiling height is only one part of the choice: the room's proportions and your preferred finish matter too.
4. Count internal and external corners separately
An internal corner is where two walls meet in an inward corner, as at the corners of a typical rectangular room. An external corner turns around a projecting edge, such as the front corner of a chimney breast.
Walk around the room and make a separate count of each type. Our coving models have internal and external corner options. Choose corner pieces with the same model code as your straight lengths.
Check the quantity supplied in each option before ordering. Dry-fit pieces before fixing them, especially where the walls are uneven or the corner angle is unusual.
5. Check your full order
Measure the wall runs you plan to cover and make a cutting plan. Allow for cuts and offcuts according to the layout rather than assuming the room perimeter alone is enough.
- Confirm the model code for every length and corner.
- Check the total metres and number of lengths in the selected option.
- Count internal and external corners separately.
- Choose installation materials suitable for the particular product.
- For LED projects, confirm that the separate lighting system fits the chosen profile.
The price shown on the product page follows the option you select. Check that you have selected the intended sample, corner or length pack before adding it to your basket.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a sample of every model?
You can first shortlist the shapes you like online, then order samples of those models to compare in the room.
Can I mix corner pieces from different models?
Choose the matching model code. A similar width does not mean two profiles have the same shape.
Does buying LED coving include the lighting?
No. Select compatible LED strips, drivers and controls separately, following the equipment manufacturer's instructions.
